WE HELP YOU RAISE CONFIDENT KIDS

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is the most popular and fastest-growing martial art in the world right now. It has been established as one of the most effective combat styles, making it the perfect tool to instil future-ready resilience in our children.

WHY BJJ FOR CHILDREN?
BJJ is similar to our natural movements and innate self-defence skills. Like tiger cubs that practice sparring before leaving the safety of their mother, we humans practice fighting when we are young, pliable, and less likely to hurt one another, and ourselves. BJJ works within the natural instincts we are all born with. It operates predominantly on the ground where it shines above all other martial arts.
Starting Saturday, 27 May 2023, we will run a 4-week Jiu-jitsu training camp leading to a friendly Competition held at the end of the camp, on Saturday, 24 June, at our Central outlet on 137 Cecil Street. Parents will be invited to come, watch and support their children on Tournament day.

WEEK 1:
JIU-JITSU POINTS SYSTEM & TAKEDOWNS
Our kids can't compete without diving first into the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF) point scoring system. In Jiu-Jitsu, every position and manoeuvre leads to specific points on the scoreboard. Most often than not, the objective when competing is getting to the top position. Kids will learn how to start a match on their feet with takedowns and takedown defences.

WEEK 2
ATTACKING FROM GUARD
In Jiu-jitsu, we often find ourselves on our backs, so learning how to defend, sweep and attack from the bottom is a must. Some players also prefer to be at the bottom; we will also teach our kids how to pull-guard, bring your opponent into your guard before sweeping to score points and be in a more favourable position on top of your opponent.

WEEK 3
PASSING & SUBMISSIONS
Once you reach the top position, you must learn to maintain it and stay dominant in a match. This third week we will teach our kids to master top control and advance to the most favourable positions, such as side control or mount, scoring precious points along the way.

WEEK 4
STRATEGY & ESCAPING BAD POSITIONS
Every day, we see average Jiu-Jitsu players beating superior competitors because they had a great game plan and stuck to it. We will teach kids how to develop effective strategies based on their strengths and weaknesses. They will also learn how to escape bad positions.

COMPETITION DAY: 24 JUNE 2023
After completing the 4-week training camp, all kids will be invited to participate in a friendly competition on Saturday, 24 June, exclusive to Carpe Diem members, where they will apply all their learnings. The competition will be held at our Central outlet, where kids will compete under the watchful eyes of all our coaches. Parents will be invited to come and watch their kids compete.

WATCH OUR KIDS IN ACTION
MEET OUR PASSIONATE INSTRUCTORS
We're a team of makers, thinkers and explorers. We approach BJJ with curiosity and experimentation, using what we learn to help your child develop confidence, resilience and discipline. Last but not least, our in-house child psychologist makes sure everything we do is rooted in science.

AMIRUL
Amirul is ‘Mr Nice Guy’ everywhere he goes but do not be fooled. He has been training Brazilian Jiujitsu for almost 10 years and he is an amazing grappler. Amirul is the Head Coach of the kids programme; he takes his years of knowledge and he works to impart them to the next generation. ‘Children executing perfect technique makes me smile’ is something he often tells his friends.

DARYL
Daryl is the disciplinarian on the mats, just ask the kids in class! Behind his stern face, he is a jovial and lighthearted character that cracks everyone up in the gym. His biggest joy is to see kids grow up and mature in the kids programme. Daryl’s favourite food is Barchormee and he can have it 7 days a week.

CHERITH
Cherith is a BJJ Coach with a Diploma in Child Psychology and Early Education. She is what we call the brains and technique in both Jiujitsu and education. Cherith does not teach, she relates and imparts. Teaching children more than just a job for Cherith, she believes in empowering our children to be confident, so they will do well in everything they aspire to.

KARMUN
Karmun loves being with young children. One of the first few Blue Belts of Carpe Diem BJJ Singapore, Karmun roughed it out with the boys in the early days of the academy. If anyone knows how to fight someone bigger and stronger, that will be Karmun. Learn to stand up against your giants in life, learn to be like Karmun.
